People often get stuck in negative thought, reaction or behavioral patterns. What we often don't realize is that those patterns may no longer serve us, and can actually stand in the way of us experiencing serenity. So, here are some of my tips (easier said than done, of course) to help you be happier. Let's change your patterns, and give up what is no longer serving you!
15 Things to Give Up If You Want to be Happy:
1. Give up your need to always be right.
Would you rather be right, or would you rather be kind?
2. Give up your need for control.
I hate to break it to you, but the only thing you are in control of is yourself.
3. Give up on blaming others.
Blaming others gets in the way of us assuming personal responsibility and moving forward peacefully.
4. Give up your self-defeating talk.
If you've read my past blog posts, you know how much I emphasize the importance of being kind to ourselves.
5. Give up your limiting beliefs.
Try to be open to the idea of new possibilities or outcomes.
6. Give up complaining.
You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.
7. Give up the luxury of criticism.
If you spend your time and energy improving yourself, you won't have any time left criticizing others.
8. Give up your need to impress others.
Everyone thinks about themselves anyway; no one is focusing on you!
9. Give up your resistance to change.
A comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there.
10. Give up labels.
The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don't know anything about.
11. Give up on your fears.
Fear is a form of delusion. Why harp on something that may never even come true?
12. Give up your excuses.
Excuses keep us from change and improvement.
13. Give up the past.
Although resolving pain from our past can help us move forward, there is nothing left for you there to continue going back to. Keep moving.
14. Give up attachment.
Of people, places and things.
15. Give up living your life to other people's expectations.
This is your life, no one else's.
